Irish bonds

On 12th June our students had an opportunity to meet

football fans from Ireland who came to Poland to

support their national team in the Euro 2012

championship.

The guests presented their country, sang their national anthem and shared their views of the world.

 

During the meeting we discussed the issue of Euro 2012 and the odds for Irish and Polish football teams in the forthcoming matches.

 

 

The students enjoyed the event and broadened their horizons. The meeting enabled them to learn about Irish culture and listen to native English speakers.

And the winners are…… “My place on Earth” Competition

On 30^th May 2012 four students of our school embarked on a trip to Warsaw to participate in the prize-giving show in the 4^th national competition titled “My place on Earth” and organized by National Geographic and “Nowa Era” publishing house.

More than 150 secondary schools from all over Poland took part in the competition and the jury selected only 17 schools as winners. One the teams which represented our schools was also selected as laureates of the competition.

The winner-team presented a 2-minute film titled “One-way ticket”, which told a story of girls trying to win the ticket for one of the Euro 2012 matches.

The prize-giving show was held in “Atlantic” cinema in the very heart of Warsaw. During the show the jury announced the final winner and awarded the Grand Prix prize. More than 150 people from all over Poland took part in the show.

A clip titled „Bookworms Celebrating Euro 2012” was awarded the Grand Prix prize in the film category. The clip was prepared by the team of students from Gimnzajum No.2 in Skoczów.

The brochure „The other side of the coin” prepared by the team of students from Zespół Szkół im. S. Staszica in Staszów was awarded the second Grand Prix prize in the multimedia presentation category.

Our team was awarded honorary certificates of participation, money-vouchers for Empik shops, books in English, key-strings and a limited edition football with National Geographic and Nowa Era logos.

Once the official part of the show was over, the participants enjoyed their time at a lavish banquet at the foyer of the Atlantic cinema.

And last but not least we ate delicious apple-pies with ice-cream and coffee to make the whole day even sweeter.

Our school won a prize in the national competition!

Open Day in 7LO

We would like to invite all  pupils who aspire to become students of our school to come and visit us on Open Day on Saturday 31^st March 2012 from 11:00 a.m. to 02:00 p.m.

On that day you shall enjoy the opportunity to sightsee the school premises and classrooms, talk to our current students and find out more about our educational offer.  The staff of the school shall also happily answer any of your queries concerning school and education. The students prepared various presentations and other attractions.

Photography classes

The students of class IC, which majors in art in our school, have an opportunity to develop their artistic talents participating in classes with Mr Zoltan Arga who has been a Comenius Assistant in our school since September 2011.

Apart from conducting conversational classes with our students, Mr Arga teaches them photography. Mr Arga is a photographer by education so students may benefit from his extensive knowledge in the field.

The classes include various areas of photography such as lightening, modelling, types of cameras and lenses sensitivity, composition of photos etc. The classes are conducted in English language mostly in the form of hands-on activities with Mr Arga's careful guidance.

Students learn to take different types of photographs such as still life, portraits or landscapes.

They use both professional cameras, compact cameras or just in-built cameras in their mobile phones. The type of equipment does not matter so much because fun and students' motivation and hard work are main values here.

The classes are conducted entirely in English language.

4th National Competition „Moje Miejsce na Ziemi”

Our school decided to participate in the 4^th National Competition “My place on Earth” organized by Nowa Era Publishing House and National Geographic.

This year students may choose out of two tasks and prepare them in English language.

1.     Multimedia presentation (or a leaflet in PDF format)

 

2. A short movie




The subject of the competition is:

“How are you going to celebrate Euro 2012 in your place on Earth?”

Projects may be preprepared by teams of 4 to 6 students.

3rd Foreign Love Song Competition

One of the students of our school, Marianna Korman (2A), was awarded a special prize in the 3^rd Foreign Love Song Competition organized by Liceum Ogólnokształcące No 9 in Toruń on 10^th February 2012.

CONGRATULATIONS!

The competition was fierce and more than 80 contestants enrolled. Only twenty of the singers were selected to take part in the final round on Friday. Marianna was one of the three contestants from our school who took part in the preliminary auditions and she was the only one who was admitted to the finals.

The participants presented various songs and the quality and standard of their  voices, performance and preparation were at the highest level. Marianna sang one of the well-known songs titled “Stop” by Sam Brown.

The jury had a difficult nut to crack.

The first prize was awarded to Paulina Jeżewska

The competition attracted large audience. We can see Marianna Korman and Paulina Swiatecka at the far end of the room listening to some love songs.

LOVE SONG COMPETITION

3rd English Poetry Competition "TOGETHER"

We are happy to announce the 3rd English Poetry Competition for secondary schools students is opened.

The competition shall take place on 1st December 2011. Students attending 1st, 2nd and 3rd form of all secondary schools in Torun are welcomed to participate.

This year the competition’s theme is...

„TOGETHER”

The contestants shall present a recitation of one poem of their liking of any of British poets, which shall obviously be associated with the main theme of the Competition. The jury of the competition shall assess the style of recitation and interpretation of the chosen poem.

Schools willing to enroll their students please apply not later than 10th November 2010.

The successful applications shall contain:

• the name of the school
• the name(s) of the contestant(s)
• the title(s) of the poem(s) to be recited along with the
• name(s) of its/their author(s)
• the name(s) of the supervisor teacher(s)
• an e-mail address for communication purposes

 Do not hesitate!
